Abstract

Herbal therapeutics are becoming increasingly important in modern healthcare because of their natural origin, therapeutic value, and growing acceptance among patients and researchers. In recent years, pharmaceutical research has focused not only on developing effective treatments but also on adopting sustainable and environmentally responsible practices. This shift has encouraged the exploration of medicinal plants and plantbased compounds as potential alternatives or supportive therapies for various acute and chronic diseases. Herbal medicines possess a wide range of therapeutic properties and are generally considered safer with fewer side effects when used in an appropriate manner. Advancements in pharmaceutical sciences, including phytochemical screening, biotechnology, nanotechnology, and green extraction methods, have improved the quality, stability, and therapeutic potential of herbal formulations. At the same time, sustainable research approaches such as green chemistry, eco-friendly manufacturing, biodegradable materials, and ethical cultivation of medicinal plants are helping reduce environmental impact within the pharmaceutical sector. These innovations are creating new possibilities for safer and more sustainable healthcare solutions. However, challenges related to standardization, quality assurance, clinical validation, and regulatory approval continue to influence the global acceptance of herbal therapeutics. This review discusses the evolving role of herbal medicines and highlights recent innovations in sustainable pharmaceutical research that contribute to the development of effective, safe, and environmentally conscious therapeutic products for future healthcare needs.
